Thomson Reuters | Indirect Tax Compliance

 One Source Indirect Tax Compliance

I HAVE OMITTED AND APPROPRIATED CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION. THESE DESIGNS ARE A REINTERPRETATION OF THE ORIGINAL.

On this day of a global and international company/business, we need to have one platform that could handle the complex process of Indirect Tax. Thomson Reuters came up with a platform called One Source, that will provide the solution. A platform where it is easy to use to process all the complex world of Indirect Tax and will be compliance with the tax authority internationally.

What Is an Indirect Tax?

An indirect tax is collected by one entity in the supply chain (usually a producer or retailer) and paid to the government, but it is passed on to the consumer as part of the purchase price of a good or service. The consumer is ultimately paying the tax by paying more for the product.

My Role

I was part of the pitch team and responsible for the experience and design of the Indirect Tax Compliance tools. I lead the UX work, producing all major deliverables and presenting these to the stakeholders. I worked and collaborated alongside Product Owner, Business Development Management, Data Architect, Front, and Back-end developers.

The Challenge

Providing the user a way to import their tax data, scan through the platform with ease, sorting and getting the necessary information they need and business validation .

Data-heavy, complex information, complex categories along with sub-categories, and limited real estate.

Need to match the look and feel and complex functionality with Microsoft Excel to suit the tax accountant needs.

Need to find a balance between the in house library and style-guide and the 3rd party API we are using.

The Approach

My lack of knowledge on the new subject meant that I needed to understand the restriction thoroughly and quickly. On top of that, I'm also working with the Business Development Management and Product Owner to get a better understanding of what the users need.

Throughout the project by collaborating with the Front and Back-end developers along with the Data Architecture to narrow down the specifics and requirements for the platform.

The next step(s)

The next step will be trying to design more ways to make it easy for user to dissect, sort and filter the data. Also continue making a custom layout for user to operate and use with ease.
